Cary Sertoma Series Welcomes Triangle-based Blu-Bop
First appearance for seven piece Bela Fleck and the Flecktones sound-alike

Cary, NC – Spend an evening in Cary enjoying the bluegrass, fusion and post-bop of Bela Fleck and the Flecktones as interpreted by Triangle-based Blu-Bop; this is the band’s first appearance at Sertoma Amphitheatre in Fred G. Bond Park, 801 High House Road, on July 11 at 6 p.m. The concert is free and open to the public.

Blu-Bop, a seven-piece ensemble whose repertoire includes music from every era of the Flecktones’ works, recreates the Flecktones’ music while also using the Flecktones’ tunes to demonstrate their own improvisational skills and techniques in the spirit of the musicians who inspired them to undertake this project. The group is made up of Hank Smith on banjo; Scott Warren on bass, Adam Snow on drums; Justin Powell on piano; Lindsey Tims on mandolin and fiddle; Paul Messinger on harmonica; and Myron Koch on saxophone.

“If you are a Flecktones fan or interested in discovering their music, Blu-Bop: A Tribute to the Music of Bela Fleck and the Flecktones is, it has been said, the first and only tribute to the groundbreaking band,” says Sarah Hagan. Program Specialist-Outdoor Arts Events. “While the band members play the Flecktones music as accurately as possible, they also use the tunes to showcase their own skills.”

Patrons may bring picnics without alcohol, leashed pets, and chairs and blankets. All Sertoma Series shows occur rain or shine; in the event of inclement weather, visit the Town’s weather status page for updated information, including the rain location: http://games.townofcarync.gov/culturalarts/displaystatus.php.
